a mock interview to prepare for interviews, but you can also use these
questions for self-study. You can book your advising appointment on campusBRIDGE.
You can also partner with a friend and they can ask you a sample question while you answer to practice interviewing.
- Please describe your past work experience to me. I am particularly interested in learning about experience that may be relevant to this position.
- How has your education prepared you for this position? What courses have you taken which you feel are particularly relevant?
- What can you tell me about this organization?
- Do you have any international experience (ie: traveling abroad, teaching abroad, volunteering abroad)? How has this experience influenced your world view?
- What experience do you have that demonstrates your ability to work internationally?
- This position requires a varied skill set: tell us about one of the skills from the position description that you feel you are weak in and what you will do to remedy this weakness.
- What kind of supervisor do you prefer? Tell us about a time when you worked with this type of supervisor and one reason why you benefited professionally from their style.
- What is the best way to learn about a culture? What is the importance of cultural diversity in our society?
- What cultural restrictions or restraints are you familiar with?
- Tell me about a time when a co-worker gave you unwelcome advice on a project you were working on. How did you handle it?
- Tell me about a time when you were a member of a culturally diverse team. What was your role on this team? Tell us about one positive and one negative experience from your experience on this team.
- Describe a situation where you made an error in your work. What was the error? What action did you take?
- Tell me about a time when you missed a deadline for a project. Why did you miss the deadline? Tell me about any consequences and what you might have done differently.
- Homesickness can be a problem when working internationally, especially if it is a person's first time abroad. Tell us about a time when you assisted a colleague who was dealing with homesickness. What did you do to assist this person? What would you do differently if the situation happens again?
- Tell me about a time that you had to explain a concept to someone who speaks a different language. What were you explaining? How did you explain it? Were you successful? What did you learn? What would you do differently next time?
- Tell us about a time when you were expected to complete an assignment without a lot of information on how to complete the assignment and the expected outcome. How did you proceed with this assignment?
- Tell us about a time when you had a conflict with a co-worker. What did you learn from this experience?
- Tell us about a time when you had to adhere to a policy that you disagreed with.
- Tell me about a time when you provided a public presentation. How was the presentation received? What is one thing you would do differently next time? How comfortable would you feel to teach on this subject in a language other than English?
