Students are encouraged to book an advising appointment for a mock interview to prepare for interviews, but you can also use these questions for self-study. With the participation of a friend, they can ask you a sample question, while you answer to practice interviewing.
  1. Why did you decide to seek a position with this school system?
  2. How do you plan to remain current on what is happening in the field?
  3. Of the courses you took in university, which ones did you like the most? Least? Why?
  4. How do you determine or evaluate success? Of students? Of yourself?
  5. Tell me about one of the extracurriculars that you pursued while in university. Why did you decide to pursue this activity?
  6. Describe your teaching style.
  7. What principles do you use to motivate students?
  8. Name some methods you could use to develop self-esteem in a student.
  9. Describe a project on which you worked on which had a very short deadline.
  10. Describe the components of a good lesson.
  11. Describe a lesson plan you used during your field experience or during past teaching experiences that went extremely well. Have you used any skills or knowledge from that lesson to improve your lesson planning overall? What was one of those improvements?
  12. Tell me about a time when a student disrupted your classroom or lesson repeatedly. How did you deal with this issue? 
  13. How would you deal with a parent who continually came to you and told you that you were not meeting their child’s educational needs?
  14. Give me an example of a time when you got an idea accepted and implemented in your workplace.
  15. For a wide variety of reasons, students don't all have access to the same resources outside of the classroom. Tell me about a time when you considered this issue in your teaching and assigned work and what you learned from this experience.
  16. Tell me about a time when a student fell asleep in your class. How did you deal with this issue?
  17. Tell me about a time when you successfully integrated technology into the classroom. What technology was it? How do you know it was successful?
  18. Describe the methods that you use to stay organized as a teacher.
  19. Tell me about a method you use to maintain contact with parents. (As a follow up) What would you do if this method did not seem to be working anymore?
  20. Tell me about a time when you personally acted as an ethical citizen in the classroom.
