Students are encouraged to book an advising appointment for a mock interview to prepare for interviews, but you can also use these questions for self-study. With the participation of a friend, they can ask you a sample question while you answer to practice interviewing.
  1. What would you tell a first-year student entering your program?
  2. What types of work would you delegate to a technician?
  3. Which areas of the industry particularly interest you and which do you wish to move into?
  4. Why do you think you are the person we should recruit as a graduate entry engineer?
  5. What problems do you foresee for our industry?
  6. What would you do if a supervisor came to you with a technical problem you are not trained to answer?
  7. Our workforce is diverse, multinational and multilingual. Describe at least one experience you have had working with people from other countries and cultures. How would that experience make you a better manager?
  8. Providing clear instructions and writing technical documentation is exceedingly important in our workplace. What steps have you taken to improve your communication skills? Give us one example where that knowledge improved communication in the workplace.

  11. If while on the job you made a serious technical error, what would you do?

  14. Tell us about a time when you had to investigate or audit a project. How did that experience develop your problem-solving abilities?
  15. Have you ever dealt with a crisis situation? Can you explain what happened, what your role was and the outcome? What was the most important thing you learned from this experience?
  16. Imagine this situation: a client approaches you with a request that is completely unrelated to your area of expertise. You do not have the answer and the request is not something that would be logically available in your organization. How do you respond?
  17. Describe an unsafe situation that you observed while at work. What did you do?
  18. What experience do you have working and living in a remote environment and what steps will you take to adapt?
  19. Give us an example of a troubleshooting situation where you couldn't seem to find a solution. How did you solve this problem?
  20. Tell us about your experience working with design software such as AutoCad. How did you develop these skills?
