Summer Student - Geophysics
Spartan is seeking a Summer Student - Geophysics for our Geophysics & Reservoir Characterization team. This role will gain hands-on experience while supporting geophysicists and geologists with various tasks that contribute to fieldwork, research, and analysis. The role offers great learning opportunities, especially for students pursuing a degree in Geophysics or related fields. This is a full-time, four-month term, in-office position based in Calgary.
Skills and Qualifications:
What You Will Do
- Engage in research tasks or projects to explore specific geophysical questions or topics under supervision
- Help analyze geophysical data using specialized software (e.g., SeisWare, Petrel, Hampson Russell, MATLAB, Python, or industry-specific tools) to interpret seismic data
- Contribute to the preparation of reports or presentations, summarizing the results of field campaigns or data analysis
- Integration with other disciplines such as Geology, Petrophysics, and Engineering
- Final recommendations and presentation to Management team
- Preferred Disciplines: Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or Sciences, in your 3rd year, or 4th year going into graduate or Masters studies
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook)
- Previous experience in Hampson Russell, SeisWare, Petrel, Petra, and/or GeoScout would be considered an asset
- Data analytics software skills preferred (Spotfire, etc.)
- Previous energy industry experience preferred
- Strong communication skills with ability to work as part of a team
